Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is the fourth Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta from her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. In the early years of his life, her dad became fascinated by the theatre. While he was a student studying at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he took part in numerous performances. After joining the airforce and appearing in an airforce production in Biloxi together with Betty Lou Bredemus. They got married in 2005, and welcomed their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter went to Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after the couple left the Air Force of the United States. Walter was hired to work for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to be a part of the production team for the television show Bum Bum His Buddies, which aired in Decatur Georgia. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the local children's Saturday morning show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies and their Buddies, which they both funded. The following year, they started the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for six years. They had two more children, Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also called Lisa) as well as Julia Billingsley (1967) (also also known as Julie).
