Coleman was born in Blackpool Lancashire. She attended Arnold School in Blackpool where she was head of the school and scored straight A's in her A-levels. She is disappointed that she did not receive a standard schooling when talking about her Emmerdale experience. Coleman joined a theater company, In Yer Space while during her time at university. She performed with them during the Edinburgh Festival for the play Crystal Clear. An award was presented to her for the show, and the production received an enthusiastic reception. Coleman got a nomination in the category of Best Actress from the TV Choice Awards. Steven Moffat, the producer of Doctor Who confirmed in a 21st March 2012 press conference that Coleman will be Matt Smith's character following the departure of Karen Gillan left. Moffat picked her to play the role due to her ability to work the best alongside Smith and could talk faster than Smith. Eva's TV roles on The Dr. Maria Santos, in All My Children, and Detective Natalia Boa Vista in CSI Miami stand out. Eva is married three times with a daughter by her second spouse.
